Q: Every year, my perennial beds get boring as the summer flowers fade. They need some color to carry through autumn. Which fall-blooming perennials can still be planted now?

A: My favorites are fall blooming asters which come in a variety of sizes and colors to fit any border. Goldenrod Fireworks and any of the Hyssops (Agastache) never fail to impress. Sprinkle in some Whirling Butterflies (Gaura), sedum Autumn Joy, Goldsturm Rudbeckia and some cool season grasses like Little Bluestem, Blue Avena or any of the Feather Reed grasses to complete the transformation.
