What flowering trees can I plant that don't attract Japanese beetles?

Q:  What flowering trees can I plant that don't attract Japanese beetles? I live in Denver.  

A: Here are some of my favorite flowering trees that Japanese Beetles avoid.  Redbud, Yellowhorn, White Fringe Tree, Japanese Tree Lilac, Magnolia, Golden Rain Tree, Pagoda Dogwood, Cornelian Cherry Dogwood, Catalpa, Smokebush, Seven-Son Flower, Russian Hawthorne. Thoughtful selection will provide color from early spring through mid-summer.

I’ve added some of the best beetle resistant flowering shrubs as well.  Forsythia, Manzanita, Oregon Grape Holly, Blue Mist Spirea, Buttonbush, Rabbit Brush, Fernbush, Mockorange, Redosier Dogwwod, Smokebush, Spanish Broom, Hydrangeas, Russian Sage, Ninebarks, Elderberry, Spireas, Snowberry, Lilacs, Viburnums, Apache Plume, Carol Mackie Daphne.  Again, with thoughtful selection, these shrubs can provide flower color from early spring into autumn.  Many also have lovely fall colored foliage.
