When to Divide Snowdrops

Q: My Snowdrops have finished flowering and the clumps are looking pretty crowded. When can I divide them?

A: Unlike most spring flowering bulbs, snowdrops are best lifted and divided while they are “in the green” which means while the foliage is still green. Lift the entire clump, gently separate the bulbs into groups of 5-6 bulbs minimum per division, keeping the foliage intact. Replant at the same depth they were growing and water thoroughly. Keep well watered until the foliage dies back.
